Project management

We contribute to a green inland shipping sector by participating in (international) research and advisory projects and by setting up and maintaining strategic knowledge networks with leading players in the maritime (manufacturing) industry and services.

The EICB carries out projects for both public and private parties, often in partnerships such as consortia. Within these partnerships, the EICB fulfills various roles, depending on the specific needs. Our team has a balanced mix of junior and senior capabilities, enabling us to take the lead in provincial, national, and international projects as well as play leading roles at the work package level.

The knowledge available within the EICB is often called upon. We provide feasibility studies on behalf of both national and international parties. Examples of topics include the optimal locations for LNG bunkering points, the feasibility of emission standards, and the updating of cost-benefit analyses relating to various greening technologies.

European Green Deal

The European Green Deal, signed on June 11, 2019, stipulates that CO2 emissions from inland shipping must be drastically reduced and that inland waterway transport must grow significantly in order to be completely emission-free by 2050. This ambitious goal requires thorough feasibility studies to enable the necessary changes in inland waterway transport. These studies focus on identifying technological, economic, and policy solutions to reduce emissions and stimulate the growth of inland waterway transport.

Environmental performance is labeled, based on which a contribution from the sustainability fund and financing by banks is agreed upon.

Cleaner sailing

With regard to the necessary reduction in CO2 emissions, there are a number of options that can be exploited, such as the use of biofuels or engines that emit fewer environmentally harmful emissions, such as Stage V engines. There are initiatives on the market that make use of hydrogen, methanol, or batteries. Ports will also have to get involved.
