Path2Zero
The PATH2ZERO project (Paving the way towards zero-emission and robust inland shipping) is a research initiative led by Delft University of Technology and run in collaboration with various partners from the inland shipping sector. It focuses on accelerating the transition to emission-free inland shipping and brings together shipping companies, shippers, technology developers, and civil society organizations.
Central to the project is the development of a digital twin: a virtual model of the inland waterway network that includes individual ships, logistics chains, and infrastructure. With this tool, PATH2ZERO can test different technologies, fuels, and policy measures and calculate their effects on efficiency, costs, and emission reduction.
In addition, the project is investigating sustainable business models and realistic transition scenarios that will provide the sector with guidance in the transition to a climate-neutral future. In this way, PATH2ZERO is contributing to practical strategies for making inland shipping completely emission-free and keeping it internationally competitive.
